Осмысление вопросов, связанных с культурным и социальным бытием человека, всегда находилось в фокусе внимания исследователей-гуманитариев. Многократно становился предметом самого пристального рассмотрения и феномен власти — неустранимое явление общественной жизни людей, проявляющее себя отношениями господства и подчинения одних людей другим. Пристально изучались эти сюжеты и русской философской мыслью. Л.Н. Толстым были даны оригинальные ответы на вопросы о сущности культуры, социального устройства, механизма распределения властных ролей в обществе. К сожалению, мысли Л.Н. Толстого о созидании культуры, приобщающей людей к непреходящим ценностям взаимного уважения, о построении общества, в котором нет места угнетению человека, о ненасильственном сломе властной организации бытия, уродующей жизнь большинства, еще должным образом не проанализированы. Попытка привлечь внимание к этим мыслям Л.Н. Толстого и предпринята в настоящей статье.

Leo Tolstoy about Culture, Society and Power

Focusing on the multiple facets of human existence, Russian thought was always sensitive to the culture, society, and power interrelations. L.N. Tolstoy's philosophical heritage profoundly addresses the issues of the substantial foundations of culture and social world, as well the distribution of power roles within the society. However, L.N. Tolstoy's approach to cultural creativity permitting to establish social ties based on the value of human personality and build a non-oppressive society order without using violence is not sufficiently analyzed. In my paper, I aimed at examining this spectrum of L.N. Tolstoy's theoretical ideas.

My paper offers an interpretation of L.N. Tolstoy's approach to culture, society, and power interrelations. It is based on the hermeneutical strategy of reading L.N. Tolstoy's religious-ethical works and essays in the context of history of philosophy and culture. In the course of this paper preparation, I have used the complete edition of L.N. Tolstoy's works published in the period from 1928 to 1958.

I have concluded although L.N. Tolstoy's views on the fundamental perspectives of transforming power relations in the society promoting ideal of mutual help, and goodwill are utopian, but extremely relevant. Tolstoy resolved in original way those philosophical and anthropological questions, especially the problem of life's journey of humanity and its acceptance of responsibility for its own destiny.
